Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is an evidence-based treatment for children 2 to 7 years of age with emotional and behavioral difficulties by working with both the child and their caregiver. It has documented success addressing a wide variety of emotional and behavioral challenges in children, including: physical and verbal aggression, destruction of property, noncompliance/defiance, hyperactivity/inattention, emotional dysregulation, and difficulties with attachment. PCIT helps to strengthen positive caregiver-child relationships. Through this program you will notice increased feelings of security, safety, and attachment, increased attention span, increased self-esteem, and increased pro-social behaviors (sharing, taking turns). In addition, you will see a decreased frequency, severity, and/or duration of tantrums, decreased hyperactivity, decreased negative attention-seeking behaviors (whining, bossiness), and decreased caregiver frustration.
